Horse Pasture Boarding
The southern Caribou region of British Columbia is renowned for its arid climate, hot summers, and mild winters, this area is considered to be a semi arid desert. Our property is composed of hill side, deep gulleys, bunch grass, fir timber and some pine and encompasses 330 acres. It has very little to nothing in the way of lush pasture. As it turns out, these are ideal conditions for raising horses. Our horses are turned out 24/7, and the terrain ensures that they remain fit, healthy, and that their hooves stay rock hard. Best of all, it allows the horse plenty of exercise and as close to a natural social life as possible.
We only take a handful of board horses at any one time. Our "style" of boarding is "turn them out with the herd" and horses are not pampered, supervised, or handled daily in any way. We do check on them as often as possible as they have to come around the ranch headquarters for water (automatic stock waterers) and salt, but unless it's needed for health reasons, we leave them alone. We believe this type of boarding is good for a horse's physiological being, allowing him to learn the herd dynamics and freedom associated with being "on the range'' so to speak and a great way for young horses to spend their first few years. They grow strong bone, muscles and tendons and develop balance and sure footedness roaming on the hillside. If your horse needs a break from riding and small spaces and you want to give him some freedom the summers and fall are a nice time for a vacation.
We love having visitors come to our farm to meet us, our animals, to see what we offer, and to check out where the horses live.
